Since her departure from the seminal, 90s folk-pop duo, The Story (with Jonatha Brooke), acclaimed singer-songwriter Jennifer Kimball has forged an unconventional career path. With the March 3rd release of Avocet, she has proved once again that the wait was well worth it. A formidable songwriter and consummate performer, Kimball returns with a stellar collection of songs and a quiver full of accolades. Joined by Rose Polenzani and special guest Kris Delmhorst, this will be a magical night of harmonies.
Avocet is Kimball's third LP, and her first album of original material since 2006’s Oh Hear Us, her second record and the follow up to her debut solo record Veering from the Wave (PolyGram, 1998). The songs on Avocet got to develop over a decade during which Kimball lost her mother, had a son, earned a degree in landscape design and had pretty much hung up her touring shoes. "I’m really excited about this work," she says of the new album. "It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve done before.”
“Kimball weaves together the threads of many musical traditions…to create an emotionally powerful and coherent chronicle of the loss and recovery of love in her life.” — The Wall Street Journal
“What makes these songs [and their lush-quirky chamber-pop arrangements] so impressive... is the elegant melodies and harmonies, which capture the loneliness and longing that blossom in the wake of separation.” — The Washington Post
